If you had told me a few years ago that I would be running an online boutique filled with quirky pajamas, smiling frog slippers, and coastal gifts, I might not have believed you. But life has a beautiful way of guiding us toward exactly what we—and perhaps the world—need most.

My name is Misty Cronos . I am a proud U.S. Army veteran and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). In my daily work at the VA, supporting fellow veterans through the heavy realities of inpatient PTSD and substance abuse rehab, I see firsthand how vital empathy, care, and safe spaces truly are.

But I also know these struggles from the inside out.

For a long time, I have walked my own path through severe anxiety and depression. There have been days when the world felt entirely too heavy, when leaving the house or even finding the energy to get dressed felt like an impossible mountain to climb. On those dark days, while taking time off to heal, I discovered something small but profound: the healing power of comfort and joy.

I noticed that simply changing into a pair of fun, whimsical pajamas completely shifted the energy in my room. My husband noticed it too, loving the instant spark of light it brought back into my eyes. Honestly, it is nearly impossible to stay completely trapped in a dark headspace when you look down and see a pair of happy frog slippers smiling right back at you!

That is how The Mississippi Mermaid Mercantile was born.

I realized that we all need a sanctuary—a place where we can wrap ourselves in cozy, lighthearted comfort when the outside world feels like too much. Every piece in our mercantile, from our coastal gift bags to our quirky socks and jewelry, is hand-selected to bring a splash of magical seaside warmth and an instant reason to smile.

Because of my anxiety, running this business as an e-commerce store allows me to work from a safe, peaceful home environment that fully supports my mental health. By supporting this small, female-disabled-veteran-owned business, you aren't just buying a pair of pajamas. You are helping me transform a personal coping mechanism into a national sanctuary of joy.
